What am i doing here?

Well, first - i have no knowledge of Linux whatsoever and the closest i’ve ever been to something remotely based on “coding” is prangster startup menus on dos-win3.1 systems.

So… what interest do i have in moOde audio and -forum?

Yes, me - I’m 46 years old and playing bass in a metal band with other farts about the same age as me and the short version is as follows.
I wanted a simple to use backing track pedal for home practise and rehearsals when our drummer is off grid (veteran with PTSD) and even better if it’s also usable in live situations (stable, quality audio, ease of use) if drummer losing it on the way to a gig.

Some of the reasons why i don’t just buy a commercial product is pricepoint incl. options/limitations. I neither want to fiddle with laptops, 3.5mm jacks etc.

In my search for alternatives i stumbled upon raspberry pi and began digging… and digging, actually spend most of my time googleing the past week or so.
moOde seems to suit my project well, which in short is a simple (i guess) audio player playing local files, typical wav, in a reasonable fx pedal format alu inclosure with three momentary stomp buttons controlling start/stop, next and previous and a small oled display with ditto info.
Running read only (practically like a normal guitar/bass fx pedal) and if possible wireless file transfer from mob to usb pen ‘on the go’.

Most of the hardware already ordered and should be here within a week - Raspberry pi 4b 4gb (overkill, i know might use it for other projects later on), dac hat, oled etc etc (can’t wait..!).

Welcome to the forum.

It's been decades since I spent time in Denmark but I remember my visits fondly.

You have an interesting use case, for sure.

It seems to me that the challenge here isn't moOde itself. Happy you chose it but I think there are several different open-source players which would work equally well.

Rather, the challenge may be the user-interface aspect. Were I you, I'd definitely want first to jury-rig this on the bench to make sure I have the functionality and ergonomics right.

'Course I'm older than the hills (and my opthalmologist confirms my eyes are too) but even when I was your age I wouldn't be able to read a small OLED display somewhere among the tangle of cords on a lighted stage.

Keep us posted on your progress in a new thread. There are plenty of experienced moOde users here who'll happily answer questions.

Regards,
Kent

Thank you for the welcome Kent.

Some of the reasons i landed on moOde are that i would (will at some point, also if i crashland this project) use it with my hi-fi setup and the fantastic helpfull support.

I actually got a breadboard earlier today for testing everything before i decide which inclosure I’ll use to house it all in a user friendly way for a guy with rather big feet…
The small oled is a concern for me too and i might need to go bigger. I decided to give it a go to save space and cross my fingers the minimal info i need is readable. I actually scaled down from a ~4” because that size gives some issues regarding the size of dedicated pedal inclosures. My downscaling may have been to aggressive though, we’ll see. :-D

Will post when i manage do fiddle something together and I’ll probably ask a lot of noob questions on the way.

Thanks, Rock.

Hi Robert,

Well… even though we like to bitch about minor stuff here in Denmark it’s honestly a pretty nice place to live.?
