Solved: Sort albums per artist, by year
#1
I would like to display albums by a selected artist in year order in the right-hand column.
I have tried a number of Preference settings and combinations but not the correct one yet.
The library is displayed by Tag, under Artist (Strict). This changes when I make appropriate selections in Preferences, however the right-hand column heading has remained 'Albums by Artist' if that is any clue.
I have edited the Year tags for a number of test items, and understand that if not all tracks are correctly tagged this will cause issues.
So many Grateful Dead albums .....
Any help appreciated - thank you.

Set Prefs, Library, Tag view sort to "Album/Year"

Here's the (i) help for the option.

by Album: Albums are sorted alphabetically.
by Album/Year: Albums are sorted alphabetically in the full list. When an Artist is clicked albums for the artist are sorted chronologically
by Artist: Albums for eac
by Artist/Year: Albums for each artist are sorted chronologically.
by Year: Albums are sorted chronologically.
Note that when sorted by year if not all tracks in the album have the same year then the latest year will be used. If no year tag exists or if the year tag is not a number then no year information will be shown for that album.

In upcoming 8.3.8 release a month MM can be added to the Date tag for albums that were released in different months in the same year to allow them to be sorted correctly.

There is also a special "AlbumDate: YYYYMM" string that can be added to the beginning of the Comment tag that can be used to correctly sort compilation albums containing tracks with different Dates.

From the WIP release notes:

- UPD: Allow for month (YYYYMM) in Date tag to improve Album/Year sort
- UPD: Allow for "AlbumDate: YYYYMM" in Comment tag to improve Album/Year sort
Enjoy the Music!
