Show your audio system
Hello

Introducing Take-awayFi. My attempt at a moode audio player.
Specs
Rpi 3 model B
DAC - ESI U24 XL (USB)
Amp - Nad 3150
Speakers - KEF Coda II
Adafruit OLED screen (using mpd_oled)
On/ off button with LED.
Housed in a food take away container (spared no expense! Smile ).

The amp and the speakers are over 30 years old now. My Uncle gave them to me a long time ago and I didn't have the heart to get rid of them. Then i stummbled across Moode afew years ago. I could finally connect to my old system with new technologies and enjoy music again. My tiny, mono kitchen radio was doing nothing for me.
Enjoy the pics.
Cheers
Paul

Both of my moOde players live in old take-away boxes.  Practical, cheap, easy to modify, perfect.

Here is my setup:

Rpi 3b

Allo Kali i2s reclocker
Allo Volt amp
Klipsch R51M speakers
Dayton Audio subwoofer

The decorative box has a couple of holes in the back and all the power blocks and cabling are stored in there.

My partner and I are at odds on the subject of hi fi. We have had systems before but the eternal muttering about the deck, cd player, amp, speakers, stands etc looking out of place wears me down.

I agreed that in our new home, we would just have a radio on the sideboard in our second living room. I bought a non working Pure Evoke DAB radio for £21 from the UK version of ebay. The virtue of that particular radio is that it comes with a satellite speaker.

Simply unscrewed the back and inserted a Pi W with a Justboom AMP Hat (Zero) and a 250gb USB stick.

Looks like a radio but has all the flexibility of MoOde and the sound is fine.

Now that a precedent has been set, I am monitoring ebay for a cheap pair of Ruark MR1 speakers in soft grey. Those speakers are highly rated https://www.ruarkaudio.com/products/mr1-...ker-system

There is still a lot of work to do but the results are promising.
- raspberry Pi 3
- Hifiberry Amp2
- RTL2832U Stick for Dab+ and FM radio
- many buttons (with separate python script for indicate short and long press action and so on)
- all parts printed by my self

At the moment I have some software problems  and I also have to make the top cover.

Best regards from Germany

But when you get itchy again to mod, remember Alan Parsons quote “Audiophiles don’t use their equipment to listen to music. Audiophiles use your music to listen to their equipment” so don't forget to also enjoy listening to the music ;-)

Thanks so much for your entry into the "Show your audio system" thread. Informative content and step-by-step guide link. Planning on upgrading my equipment with a DDDAC1794 12V PS so that I can listen to it.

Best,

I decided I needed something small and simple for the bedroom.
RPi Zero W with Hifiberry mini Amp
I built a couple of speakers from an old pair of computer speakers
I used a bunch of scrap plywood and created the "tiger" striped wood by cutting ⅝ strips and gluing them together to form a board

There are 4 radio presets - using simple iron rivets as the buttons
The knob is from an old JVC cd/radio
The nice thing is that by adding a couple of LEDs I can indicate that the unit is playing - The LEDs are driven from the GPIO using the lcdup.py file and adding detection for when the mpc shows playing

The little amp is loud enough with the little 4 Ohm speakers

Power supply is an old Blackberry charger

A very apt build for a bedroom Smile
I would paint the cabinets/enclosures to match something in the Albert image.... perhaps even each a different colour.

How cold is it there this time of year ?

Went to the 'Tip Shop" (Tip being "Refuse"  in our jargon.... =junk=donated=cast off/adrift=thrown away !! Big Grin )

Found this pair of Kenwood powered speakers.....old school...no surface mount components !!...all discrete...Big Heavy Aluminium (Aluminum to you lot) base for heat-sinking the amplifier chip.... $2.50 pair

2-Way with the low-mid driver surround totally munted but the tweeter in 'top' condition !!

I had a pair of Wharfedale Modulus Cubes and with a bit of Samurai-tin-snipping their drivers were made to fit... Big Grin  $ 5.00/pair

with a cheap used DAC...$5.00

Still running in but this pair and the DAC make for a fine 'kitchen-system' all up total $12.50  (US equivalent)
