Radio Normalization?
#1
Hello,

Is there any way to normalize the volume across web radio stations? I've found some are really loud and some are very quiet. I haven't found anything that works so far, so I'm thinking there isn't. I can submit this as a feature request, but would it be possible to add a manual attenuation variable (i.e. ReplayGain tag) to a radio station, that could be interpreted by the MPD normalization feature?

Thanks!

Did you try the Volume normalization option in MPD config?

Yes, I did, but it didn't appear to do anything. I then tried lots of different combinations of settings in that section (e.g. ReplayGain), but perhaps I was doing it wrong?

Here's an example of a loud radio: http://stream.revma.ihrhls.com/zc7784.m3u

Here's an example of a quiet radio: https://stream.revma.ihrhls.com/zc2804.m3u

I can repro the Volume normalization option set to Yes has no effect on these stations.

It's possible that the setting only applies to song files but thats not mentioned in the documentation

You best bet is to post an issue to the MPD project. Maybe ask the question whether or not normalization should work on radio stations. https://github.com/MusicPlayerDaemon/MPD/issues
