Having picked up some new second-hand speakers last week (Theophany M4's), I spent the weekend listening to my collection of music, then realised the FM broadcast method I've been using just wasn't up to the quality, thanks to a high noise floor & background hum I've never been quite able to eliminate.
So I started looking around for a way to network stream from my True NAS storage, since there's so much new fangled technology around these days. And since I had an unused Pi 3B in the drawer, moOde seemed to fit the bill perfectly in terms of cost, flexibility and being open source. In particular, the option to connect Bluetooth devices (so my daughter can play her music) without a subscription is much appreciated. I also didn't want to buy a proprietary box (e.g. Advance Paris WTX-StreamTubes) and be reliant on a commercial app which may or not work in a few years time.
Am loving the software so far, after a couple of learning points (forgot to set SSH in the Pi Imager first time). Music sounds great - much better than FM!. My collection is mostly EAC-ripped CD's, using the now retired "Ubernet" standard.
I'm running the audio through the Pi's 3.5mm jack now, into a Naim NAIT 2, out to the Theophany's. I've just ordered an SMSL C200 to complete the package.
Finally, thanks to Tim (and team) for a great project & the personal welcome.
ps I tried to donate, but can't from my country.
