MPD error - Fail to decode - no such file or directory

Hi there Moode people. I have been having an ongoing issue where files will not play on moode from my hard drive. The error shows as Fail to decode... album folder details... and then it says no such file or directory.

I assumed this was because the directory hadn't been updated since I added new music to my hard drive but updating the library and regenerating the library failed to fix the problem. It doesn't seem to show any changes when I regenerate either (new folders added are not showing up).

I can see the folder when browsing the hard drive via windows explorer over the network and can play the music from foobar on my computer. Interestingly when I make changes to the folder name (I thought maybe it was too long) it doesn't seem to show the folder name change on Moode, even with refreshing and or regenerating (not sure what the difference is between the two).

Can someone direct me to the best practice when adding new music to my hard drive to get it to show and fix the mpd error?

Sorry for the noob questions. I am by no means a power user but have been using Moode for a few years now and love it. Just need to get this weird error sorted.

Also is there any way of deleting the old library information? I find that when I go in to windows browser it has added new versions of the same folder name e.g. Samsung_T5 and then Samsung_T5_ and so on. Hard to keep track and I wonder if this might be adding to the likelihood of the error in the above post?

One other update. Some of the files that are not showing up on the moode screen (USB --> Hard drive --> Folder view) appear when they are searched for using the search function. The files play when searched but do not appear in the normal folder scroll. I am thinking there is something wrong with the refresh of the drive causing some sort of a glitch in moode. Any ideas on how to fix this would be most appreciated.

You've cleared your browser cache ?

Where are the files ? on your Windows PC ? on your MoOde player? on some other USB stick or hard drive /microSD/ NAS ?

If on a USB hard-drive how is that powered ? from your Pi or from a Hub or dedicated supply ?

Hi there thanks for responding.

Yes have cleared my browser cache (assume you mean chrome cache etc.).

The files are on an SSD that is plugged into the USB port of my raspberry pi. The hard drive is USB powered (powered by the pi) and has worked fine up until recently. It is getting full and it is 2TB in size. The odd thing is I can access the drive via the network while it is plugged into the pi and navigate to the missing files and can play them over the network on my own computer. I just cannot see them via the pi browser (its as if the library has not been properly regenerated following new files being added).

I am beginning to thing the MPD error is because Moode is still using the old information to navigate to songs on the drive but the drive folders/files have changed and so it is directing it to the wrong location (if that is even a thing).

Sometimes after a search for the album info from the library the search is held by search term.
Where you search the Library, and top centre ,it shows results..click on that and change to 'All' instead of the cached search.
Does that work ?

Hi there. I assume you mean the search magnifying glass rather than the search bar in Moode? In which case I am not sure that will help me. In any case I do not see an option in either to search all.

I use moode by navigating to the drive and clicking into each folder similarly to say using windows explorer when navigating files. All of the new artists that I have added to the hard drive are not showing using this approach, yet I can find them if I choose to search for them using the search bar. Its as if all new items are not being picked up with the library regeneration, or if it is glitching.

Maybe take a few files from this and add to a fresh card, remove the old card and add the new...do a library update.

First, what model Raspberry Pi are you using?
And how many tracks in your collection?

Next, your best bet is to do the following:

1. Unplug the SSD from the Raspberry Pi
2. Install the latest moOde 8.3.8 image
3, Plug the SSD into your Windows computer and turn on the Windows File Explorer option that shows hidden files and directories. These need to be removed from the SSD otherwise there can be issues when moOde/MPD tries to index the files.

After that is done plug the drive into the Raspberry Pi and do the following

1. Open Library Config and make sure the option "Auto-update database (USB drive)" is OFF
2. Go back to Playback or Library Tag/Album view and then Menu, Update library
3. Wait for the update to complete (no spinner)

If there are issues then examine the MPD log for errors using the command below

Thanks Tim. I will need to remind myself how to download the new image and go through the installation process. I wondered if that was the case.

The Raspberry Pi is a 4 (4GB). I am not sure how many files I have but I am picking it is a lot (2TB - All flac). Does Moode have a maximum number it can handle?

I will go through the reinstall and then follow your steps and will report back.
