Apologies in advance from a Moode newby - I acquired an RPI 4 with Moode preinstalled on it, so have never had any hands on experience with Moode apart from using it to stream via BubbleUPnP on my phone.
Anyway, I noticed my software version is 6.4.2, so it is way out of date and has quite a different interface to the current version.
I found a 'Check for software update' option in the System Config, but this just tells me I already have the most up to date version?
So I am guessing that what I need to do is to download the latest Moode version on a different SD card, and then just plug that into my RP4? Is it that easy, or will I need to hook up the RP4 to a monitor and keyboard, in order to enter in some settings?
Is there a setting in Moode to do a backup, and is this something I need to do before attempting an upgrade to the latest software version?

Welcome @ setfan
6.4.2 is rather old so Yes, use the RPi imager that will download and install. Run through the tabs to get to MoOde and the version for your Pi4 (64bit)
https://moodeaudio.org/
Do read the latest how-to.
https://github.com/moode-player/moode/bl.../setup.txt
You need to use the RPi imager and fill all the fields and tabs.
Then just plug in the SD card and run through any configurations you desire.
Check the 'Quick Help" menu for set-up and post for any additional help.
First boot has some info about library and player access..do note these messages on the page.

Thanks for the help! I will read up and attempt an update soon!
One other question please - do you happen to know if it is possible to play Youtube music through Moode? Or is Moode strictly only able to play radio streaming, Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify?
Cheers!

Youtube music is possible over Bluetooth or AirPlay. Tidal and Qobuz via UPnP or Bluetooth/AirPlay. They all need a suitable client on what ever your "sender" device is. Spotify connect is built in, as is a radio stream capability, and of course you can use your locally stored collection of digital music files.

Sorry for my ignorance here, but can you explain exactly how you get the Moode bluetooth to play Youtube music?
In the Audio Config menu, under Renderers it says Bluetooth On and Moode Bluetooth is showing as SET, but the also shows the following warning:
WARNING: A Bluetooth adapter must be physically attached and enabled before turning this ON otherwise moOde startup will fail.
I will get hold of a Bluetooth Adapter, but then how/where do you actually get to point Moode to the Youtube address?

If you use BT as input in Moode it means you need an external device to play music over BT to Moode.
It means you open Youtube on such device and direct its output to BT.
There is no BT address to Youtube...
What RPi model?
Why don't you consider updating to the latest 8.3.9?

Thanks, I have an RPi 4
I am keen to upgrade to the latest 8.3.9 but just need to get my head around it all - I don't even have a card reader so guess that's the very first step I need to take!
Being a bit unfamiliar with all of this, I am concerned if I get something wrong then I could end up with no music from my Pi, so am hesitant to take the plunge! :-)
As a safeguard, if I keep my card sd card with Moode 6.4.2, and then buy a new sd card to load 8.3.9 on it - should I get something wrong with the 8.3.9 upgrade attempt sd card, then is it a simple matter of just plugging the old sd card with 6.4.2 and it will work again automatically without having to change any settings at all? That will be great if that is the case - I really cant go wrong then!
Thanks for the info re casting Youtube to Moode using Bluetooth. I have got this working now (using my android phone) - the only issue is the volume is REALLY low. I have my phone volume set at max, plus my amp volume is also up really high. Is there a volume setting in Moode that needs to be changed when using Bluetooth? On my Moode screen when using Bluetooth it just displays a black screen that says "Bluetooth Active" and my phone name.
Cheers for your help!!

Exactly.
But there is nothing you can get wrong, if you just read CAREFULLY the installation instruction.
See, I emphasized "carefully" because everybody gets "download the image, flash it, and you're done", and although it is AMOST like that, IT IS NOT.
Nothing particular, but just read.

Will do, thanks Al.
Any idea on the low volume output issue when using Bluetooth to stream Youtube?

When streaming via BT the device sending the stream (that is, you phone presumably) is in control of the volume... rise it.
