Solved: Unable from Linux PC to see moode's SAMBA shares
#1
Hi

Just installed r9.01 on RPi 4.  Install all OK, now running over LAN only, and SMB config option turned on. moodeutl -l copied below

Now trying (from Linux Mint 21 on PC on same LAN), using Thunar or Nemo as file managers, to connect to SAMBA shares on moode. Have tried various combos of userid and password when prompted - e.g. 'guest' and blank password, and 'moode' and 'moode' (the user ID and p/w I setup as part of the initial PI imaging process) . . . but I can't ever see the shared drives that I see in moode's /media folder when I SSH in

Parallel volumio test install using same Linux/PC/RPi  combo sees shared SAMBA drives without difficulty.  SAMBA shares on moode viewable from parallel windows laptop

Any pointers on what might be going on here

I run Linux MInt on my laptop but with the Mate Desktop Environment which uses the Caja file manager. With it, I can connect with my moOde shares either as anonymous user or as registered user "Guest"/"none". If I leave the password blank then I can't connect as user Guest. (Possibly any non-blank password would do; I was just too lazy to check.)

It seems that Caja is caching past connections details. Once I' made the connection, if I then disconnect from the moOde shares, turn off moOde's SMB sharing, turn it back on, and try to reconnect, the shares simply open without a challenge for credentials.

Kent

Kent - thanks for the confirmation that your own set-up, Linux Mint PC to Moode RPi, which mirrors mine has Samba sharing working OK.

Give me the confidence to to probe more fully on my own Mint up. Subsequently spotted a useful thread - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=318242 - which pointed me to adding two lines below 'workgroup = WORKGROUP' in /etc/samba/smb.conf:
Code:
client min protocol = NT1
server min protocol = NT1

Actioned . . . I'm all up and running now accessing samba shares on Moode

Many thanks for your prompt early response.  Much appreciated

@springle19

I totally misread your first post...my apology for that...but I still don't understand what's going on with your system.

I added some thumbdrives containing a few music files to an otherwise unmodified moOde 9.0.1 player to replicate your setup. Enabled SMB File sharing.

Code:
xxx@m901pi5b:~ $ ls -l /media
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 42 Aug 20  2023 gfg
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Dec 31  1969 KAR01

I tried to access them from my Linux laptop via the Caja file manager. When I opened the host icon I get a choice of shares named gfg, KAR01, NAS, Playlists, SDCard. I can open any of these shares as Anonymous user or as user Guest/<none>. Isn't that what you are trying to do?

The NT1 protocol was officially deprecated some time ago because it's a security disaster zone.

Regards,
Kent
