Problem: Spotify Connect Keeps Disconneting/Dropping
#11
I had this happen to me last night. I don't use Spotify a lot, but when I do it tends to be a several hour long session of randomness while my family dance and I sit all grumpy-like.

Anyhow, after maybe an hour, the music stopped mid song. The client showed paused and not connected to the moOde connect session. Librespot was still running. No strangeness in the logs. Reconnecting to the still available connect session made the music start again from exactly where it left off, I didn't need to press play even.

Clutching at straws, I wonder if this might be something to do with the AP fallback switch that was introduced recently. I intend to run a test with it set to off, but it may be Friday before a suitably long Spotify session happens here.

What is certain however is that Spotify do have regular issues with connect clients and rotating APs. There is a lot of back and forth on the subject in their "support" forums (which are use helping each other mostly, official responses are thin on the ground).

Actually, I don't need to listen to test this out. Running some tests now to a player with the amp turned off.

OK, with the AP fallback setting on "Yes", I got about 45 minutes before the session dropped. I've since had a stable connection for several hours after setting AP fallback to "No".

It is the nature of these things that absence proves nothing, so a few more data points would be useful.

Over 4 hours of solid connection with the AP fallback set to No. Swapped it back to Yes, and I got under an hour before a drop out. For me at least it seems the AP fallback set to No is the solution.

Interesting. I had forgotten we even had this setting option. I'm getting long play times here with "Yes" as the setting so it's hard to tell if "No" would work better but it should work at least as well.

No idea where to find out if Spotify Connect Version 4 or Version 5 is used in my iPad Spotify app. The app's about>version says 8.9.82.628.

Kent

I wasn't sure which "bit" the version 4/5 referred to, I had thought it was the librespot version, but thinking about it that wouldn't need to be an option would it since the version of that is known when moOde get built.
No idea what version in 4/5 terms I'm on, but "No" worked with both my Android client and the desktop client on my Linux laptop, Android says 8.9.82.620, I can't find any version on the Linux client.

At the bar, this kept happening one day and I discovered it was a dodgy power supply powering the wifi access point. The raspberry is connected by cat5 wire few switches away but the Spotify iPads/iPhones were connected to this wifi point. Even airplay was bad. Webpages loaded as nothing was wrong. New power supply and all is ok again.

We just released librespot v0.5.0 which should fix the frequent disconnects some have been experiencing, amongst many other improvements: https://github.com/librespot-org/libresp...tag/v0.5.0
