Configure Moode with a PC-Based Plex Network Server

Am new to Moode.  I have been using Volumio for quite a while as the OS on an Allo USBridge (RPi 3) with their DigiOne add-on (which adds coax digital outs in addition to the USB out on the USBridge).  Trying Moode now as an alternative.

The Allo sits in a high end audio system and acts solely as a streamer to pull Hi Rez and ripped audio files from a PC music server running Plex.  It’s a network server and is not directly connected to the Allo.  The data connection is via Ethernet and various routers and switches from the server to the Allo.  The pc-based server was designed ultimately to run Roon but I never got around to it, and the free Plex server software works just fine and the audio quality seems as good as can be.   Am not using any streaming services presently; just playing local files (of which I have a lot).

Volumio was quite easy to configure with the server.   Volumio has a Media Servers tab and Volumio recognized my Plex server and all the music files on it.  Easy, just select the Plex Server in the server tab and all the music files are available to Volumio and the Allo. 

Any advice on how I need to do the same with Moode so it can see/connect to my Plex network music server?   Thanks much.

Moode doesn't support browsing DLNA servers directly so your best bet would be to turn on SMB file sharing on your PC server, create a share for the root of your music collection and then in moode: Menu > Configure > Library and then click CREATE Remote NAS source.

But moOde -is- a UPnP media renderer (if enabled in the settings). Any UPnP control point (example: BubbleUPnP) on phone, tablet, or laptop can browse the files on the Plex server and direct them to be played via moOde.

The last time I looked, Volumio has now also incorporated upmpdcli and so also can act as a UPnP media renderer.

Seems to me being able to browse a UPnP media server from moOde would be of little value if you can't also play the files directly from the moOde WebUI. Are you suggesting this is something which can be done in Volumio (e.g., that it now includes UPnP control point functionality)?

There was a DLNA media server browser (djmount) that once was a part of moode but it was a "less than satisfactory experience", and djmount was a long since abandoned project and so it was dropped from moode way back when.

what about Plexamp (renderer)?
As Tim pointed out Plex isnt really needed at all in order to access the media that make up Plex's libraries and also installing Plexamp might be a bit less easy but if Plex('s features) is supposed to play role, wouldnt Plexamp be the way to go?
