PeppyMeter and moOde
Wink
no problem  , same to you Smile

also i just try  with the usb  input of the denafrips   ,  i can now listen all the dsd in native   with default output mode and  desable loopback    in alsa  config  , i suspect it is because i did the config with the sound hardware  (ian canada  thing )   and i change to usb  denafrips in audio output   , is it possible why the loopback  did not work  and it output a message in a bubble  : Failed to open "ALSA Default" (alsa); Error opening ALSA device "_audioout"; snd_pcm_hw_params() failed: Invalid argument

i plan to try peppyalsa with  dsd64 , dsd128    , till now in usb they play perfectly in dsd native

ok even i remove the ian canada thing and have only the dac plug on usb , if i enter "aplay -l" , the ian card are still there and receive the same bubble message : Failed to open "ALSA Default" (alsa); Error opening ALSA device "_audioout"; snd_pcm_hw_params() failed: Invalid argument so asume i have to rebuilt or flush something or ultimately use a fresh install

ok i manage to fresh install 9.3.7 , tomorrow i will go from this install to try the new peppyalsa setting

i have no sound from all files from a usb dac , the dac is a denafrips ares 15th , but i did not found how to install peppyalsa with a usb dac it keep say : Failed to open "ALSA Default" (alsa); Error opening ALSA device "_audioout"; snd_pcm_hw_params() failed: Invalid argument with all dsd files so for me sound is more important than needle , sorry

, if i desable loopback , all is ok

Hi Im using PEPPYMETER for sometime.but I do realize that on moode 8.3 on rpi4b I need to active Default mode with LOOPBACK to pipe Music data to peppyalsa to loopback but is only support Plughw Which I notice that All DSD will be convert to PCM on the fly by MPD.... my Dac Doesnt able to get DSD decode. Always show PCM as it on the fly.

I would like to have and idea how can I used Direct HW to Dac while I can still config second pipe separately to Peppyalsa it can be PCM convert from MPD dOp "yes"..

Are there any possiblity to pipe data to peppyalsa without using Loopback?

I mean 2x audio-output From Mpd? 1x for DSD bit perfecto to HW DAC and another pipe converted PCM data to peppyalsa?

On this case it will be remain not touching DSD Musics passthrough.

Thank you and Best Regards,
Natt

Hi Matt,
Unfortunatelly I don't think so.
I will try to study if any other solution is possible.
Best regards,

Since the loopback is based on a copy of the audio-out stream, that would not be possible.
One solution I can think about could involve JACK; but I think it would be a pain in the a** to implement... and I have not being using JACK for almost 5 years now...

wait... now that I mumble a bit over the thing... AFAICR, JACK works with PCM, so...

i would like to understand why volumio can work with DSD direct option? and peppymeter also working

Probably need to ask Volumio how they do that, no one here will know.

Couple things.

1. Moode uses the ALSA Loopback device to provide a copy of the PCM output stream to other applications.
2. ALSA Loopback requires the source to be PCM format. It does not support native DSD bitstream. This means that MPD must be set to "DSD over PCM (DoP) and the DAC has to support DoP.
3. Loopback works with ALSA output modes: Default (plughw) or ALSA Direct (hw). The mode has to be set before turning Loopback on.

I don't have any experience with PeppyMeter but I think it requires the source to be PCM format which means DSD would need to be converted to PCM (not DoP) in order for the meters to correctly reflect the waveform.

If I get a few spare cycles I'll try out the excellent guide from @fdealexa and get some experience with PeppyMeter.
Enjoy the Music!
