That looks fine.
Now I'm puzzled. Occasionally we have seen a user manage to add an ID3v2 tag to a FLAC file, which is incorrect usage and may cause problems with the display of metadata but doesn't cause the mpd updating errors you reported. [1]
Perhaps indeed your installation was corrupted somehow.
If I think of anything else I'll give a shout but at this point I can only suggest Tim's solution.

[1] added in post-edit: you can check for this with the "file" command. A correctly formatted FLAC file will be reported as "FLAC audio bitstream data" while a FLAC file with an errant ID3v2 tag will be reported as "Audio file with ID3 version 2.x.0, contains:FLAC audio bitstream data", where x=3 or 4 depending on the version of the tag.
