The DAC has a Knob for Volume Control, and a small Display (0-100). The UI Volume Control changes the Hardware Control Display Numbers but not in synced with UI Volume Control Numbers. (And the other way round).

Downstream means it's not connected directly to the Pi which is the case for your DAC's built-in volume control.
A physical volume control has to be connected directly to the Pi via USB or GPIO pins in order for moOde to be able to read the device and update the UI knob.
