At least we had real manuals in 1999! I used to have an entire bookcase devoted to such things as the multi-volume X documentation and the vendors' manuals for my 1-each Sun, Digital, SGI, HP, and IBM engineering workstations in my laboratory. We were doing CAD data-exchange interoperability studies; hence the lunacy of maintaining so many different Unix boxes. Notice how many of those brands still exist? Yeah, me too. What a waste of time. At least the data standards we worked on still exist.
