LMS just has to be running on some host on the network not necessarily moOde host so Squeezelite can contact LMS and determine whether LMS has it turned on or off.
Its not obvious to me what is causing your "no audio" issue. Several of my test systems have Bluetooth, Spotify and Airplay renderers on and all works well.
