I've been having the same problems. I didn't see them prior to my last software update to 7.3.0. Generally, I leave the PI switched on and one day just came back to it with the ALSA error. My first instinct was to reboot which had no effect.
Much as I dislike prodding settings I don't fully understand, I tried changing ALSA Output Mode to Direct(hw), restarted MPD and everything started working. It had been working with Default (plughw).
FWIW I'm running the RASPI into a Schiit DAC over USB. I've tried switching the DAC between inputs on the off chance that might be part of the problem. But apparently not. Also tried changing USB socket on the PI and that **might** have had an effect but I wasn't paying enough attention and did other stuff at the same time.
If/when the problem occurs again I'll be much more methodical and report back here.
