[SOLVED] No Sound after active rotary encoder

No errors in the log but the log does show both the rotary encoder and GPIO button handler are ON. The encoder uses GPIO pins and it's not evident what the GPIO button handler is controlling but possibly there is some sort of conflict. Also I see that the audio device supports hardware volume but MPD is still set to software volume. That won't matter to the rotary encoder driver but generally its preferable to use hardware volume if the audio device supports it.
