Are the USB drives powered or do they use USB port power?
Drives plugged directly into Pi.....so just using port power....which I'm thinking to be a limiting factor.
Now searching for a suitable....Pi friendly....Powered hub I suppose!
Haven't counted tracks yet..... but must be around 5000.
You might want to simplify things by moving the collection to a single, high quality USB drive like a SanDisk UltraFit.

No need for a hub in this case, and very inexpensive so get 2 and use one as a backup.
