The Soekris DAC prolly has some sort of code in its FPGA firmware to minimize or suppress the glitches caused when the incoming audio data stops and starts.
Not sure about the Sparkler DAC but you may want to mention the issue to the manufacturer and see what they say. Maybe they can provide a patch or workaround.
