[PROBLEM] Update folder not working in 8.3.9

Now do "Update this folder" and look for lines like below in the log indicating an MPD index (database update) was run on the selected folder.

Nothing new appears in the log after having tried to "Update this folder". I tried many times. The log remains the same.

Its not obvious to me what might be happening. 
When I perform "Update this folder" the lines appear in the log.
