The last time I looked, Volumio has now also incorporated upmpdcli and so also can act as a UPnP media renderer.
Seems to me being able to browse a UPnP media server from moOde would be of little value if you can't also play the files directly from the moOde WebUI. Are you suggesting this is something which can be done in Volumio (e.g., that it now includes UPnP control point functionality)?

PS - having said that, enabling an SMB share on the server is the way to go IMO.
There was a DLNA media server browser (djmount) that once was a part of moode but it was a "less than satisfactory experience", and djmount was a long since abandoned project and so it was dropped from moode way back when.
