9.0.8 UI slow when running Camilla

aha I see. So I guess that's similar to what Budget topping dacs etc. call pre-amp mode. I suppose it is rather to be avoided. Also it is slow as well.

The "slowness" symptom suggests a network issue. Post the startup log from your friends system and I'll have a look.

Very odd.
You can try a ping test from Pi to Router to see what the stats look like. A slow network would be indicated by long round trip times, many dropped packets etc. Also ifconfig and iwconfig commands on the pi show network stats.

These stats below from the iwconfig output suggest a weak signal
Code: Link Quality=37/70 Signal level=-73 dBmIIRC you divide 37 by 70 to link quality as a percentage 37/70 ~ 50% link quality Signal level (received signal level) is in decibels and higher numbers means weaker signal. -30 dBm Amazing Max achievable signal strength. The client can only be a few feet from the AP to achieve this. Not typical or desirable in the real world. -67 dBm Very Good Minimum signal strength for applications that require very reliable, timely delivery of data packets. VoIP/VoWi-Fi, streaming video -70 dBm Okay Minimum signal strength for reliable packet delivery. Email, web -80 dBm Not Good Minimum signal strength for basic connectivity. Packet delivery may be unreliable. -90 dBm Unusable Approaching or drowning in the noise floor. Any functionality is highly unlikely. removing the panel gave me
Link Quality=53/70 Signal level=-57 dBm but volume control is still very sluggish. It might have partly improved a tiny bit but it's hard to tell because "waiting time" for volume steps is totally inconsistent. Now I wonder if a weak signal can still be considered "the culprit"

Generally, not just a weak signal but also the amount of other WiFi traffic can be an issue.
