Tag view issues - help requested!
#1
Hi,
On rebuildng the library in 8.2.x I can see everything via Folder view, but have a problem with some files in Tag view, where my digitised .WAV files show in the Album/Artist list but the song does not appear in the playback view at the bottom of the screen.
When running 8.0.2 everything was OK, then I did an in-situ update to 8.2, followed over the next 2 weeks with 8.2.1. It was then I noticed the odd behaviour, but cannot be sure it was not there in 8.2.0. I upgraded yesterdy to 8.2.2 in hope, but have the same problem.
I looked at some of the files using MP3Tag and Kid3 but could not see anything obvously wrong, made a few test changes (eg editing or adding Track title, editing Album or Album/Artist fields, cleared the Tag Cache, Regenerated the library, with no effect. I disconnected the USB drive containing the music files, regenerated the library (and saw just the Stereo Test file), then rebooted, reconnected the USB drive, regenerated the library, etc – still no improvement.
I put a copy of 8.0.2, on another card, back into the Rpi 4, rebuilt the library and all the WAV files showed and I played a few. This all appears fine – the WAV files appear in Tag view and can be played as expected.
I wrote a new copy of 8.2.2 to another card today and rebuilt the library, but the same symptoms recurred – the album names show in the Albums by Artist list but not in the playback view at the bottom of the screen. They do show, and are playable from, the Folders view.
If anyone can comment on this, and perhaps identify what I need to do to my WAV files for 8.2.x I would welcome your views.

I do have another issue – which is that Moode shows both a NAS and a USB source after rebuilding in 8.0.2, resulting in some duplication of files in the Tag views. I do not think this is related to the problem above, but would also welcome any comments about it.

I have done some research on these topics in the forum, but without success so far.

Hi,

they are just plain .wav files, right? I mean: no .cue file associated with them; maybe also no tags (usually .wav files are not supposed to have any metadata tag, such as Id3v?? and/or vorbis etc.)

Maybe you can prepare a folder resembling the contents of your HDD (just a very small part of it, of course), upload it somewhere, and provide @Nutul, @Tim Curtis and @TheOldPresbyope with a download link, so that any of us can have a look.

Cheers, Al.

Thanks Al.
The wav files do not have cue files associated but do have tags (eg track name, artist, comment, etc). These have not presented a problem in versions of Moode up to and including 8.0.2
If the issue had arisen between 7.5 and 8.0.2 then I might have assumed some major change within Moode regarding tags in wav files, but would not expect such between 8.0.2 and 8.2.x
I will consider how to best provide a selection of folders/files as requested and try to do that later today.
Cheers

The easiest is to just zip up a few files that exhibit the issue and PM a download link to the id's mentioned in @Nutul 's post.

@Tim Curtis

this resembles the problem I am facing with my flacs, when I do not have any .cue associated with them... I have looked into what MPD produces as a library file, and see no reference to those files, just the .cue's in the form /some/path/to/some/file.cue/track0001 etc. no evidence of /some/path/to/some/file.flac, for instance.
Did we update mpd, and it now behaves slightly different? (just suppositions)

IIRC I was not able to repro that issue but I can certainly re-test.

I have the cue test files you provided a while back. What do I need to do to try and repro?

Just remove the .cue, leaving just the .flac(s) files in the folder...
(you could also play around with "Ignore Cue files" ON / OFF, although I saw no difference)

result:

the .flac files (or their metadata) won't show up in neither view (folder / album / tag)

I'm not sure I understand this point

Code:
On rebuildng the library in 8.2.x I can see everything via Folder view, but have a problem with some files in Tag view, where my digitised .WAV files show in the Album/Artist list but the song does not appear in the playback view at the bottom of the screen.

but i just tried to repro as best I could. I took some untagged WAV files (simple generated tone files), added a full ID3v2 tag to each using MP3tag, and moved them to a TestTracks directory on /mnt/SDCARD. Updated the SDCARD folder and refreshed moOdeUI and also my web browser.

I don't see any obvious anomalies in the moOdeUI. For sure you should send us a couple of files to examine.

Kent

@Nutul

Al,

Please point out the thread relevant to your "problem I am facing with my flacs, when I do not have any .cue associated with them". (Did you include me in distributing any example files?) I only recall a discussion related to coverart.

I believe it never became a thread, I was discussing with it with Tim while refactoring the cue handling.
Can you try, also?
If you have a .cue + .flac album, try to remove the .cue file, and update the library. In my case, I do not see enything, neither in folder, nor in tag view.
I believe, also, that if "ignore CUE" option is set to YES, it renders the whole tag view empty, while folder view shows only every .cue, but not their associated flacs.

The thing I see is that at MPD level, no information about the flac files is being written out in the flat list it generates.

Cheers, Al.
