From the main MoOde menu drop-down (top right = 'M') > 'Quick Help' will explain.

Short version...click on the large artwork on the Player window and that takes you to the Library window.
In that window the Library options are top left...try some. Your media files are there.

Generally it is not advised to have media files on the boot drive (SD-card).
MoOde is in active development and updates will overwrite the boot drive.

Media files can be kept and accessed from a NAS or locally attached USB flashdrive or powered storage.

Also,

after you connect an external usb disk, remember to do a library update ( m => Update Library, then wait until the spinner goes out and "loading library" popup appears for a few seconds...). Then you can access your tracks from either view (album, tag, folder, etc.)

well it wasnt really local it was a local nfs mount i wanted to automount it on boot so i could scan that folder because i have my mp3 collection on local network, but i also have it on a remote server but i wanted to scan local else the scan takes ages and then after that mount the remote one through wireguard and nfs in the same location.
but i just found out that i can just do that with the nfs mount in library settings too and just change the ip afterwards it keeps the scanned content so problem is kind of fixed.
on upgrade does it also overwrite my wireguard settings etc?

If you do an upgrade from moOde itself, it retains your settings. OTOH, if you flash a new release, you should take care of making a back-up of your settings first, and then restore them.
In Conficuration => System, at the bottom of the page there are the options for doing so.

P.S.
What you are doing is not what I would do, but it works, of course, as far as your library is beginning at the same root-point (e.g.: 192.168.1.101/Music and 10.31.120.101/Music)
