ввс Ргомs has started for 2023

ввс Ргомs started on Friday evening 7/14/23. Planned 71 concerts broadcast live on гаdio 3.

I think it's the closest sound quality you can get to a live performance at home.

Download programs for up to a month later. Files are AAC/LC and geofenced for 320kbps in UK or 96k outside UK. It's best to use this tool for download. Below are some helpful command lines for the tool. Add after the program name in the command line.

Specify the download directory:
--prefs-add --outputradio="D:\XXXX"

Specifiy the default download quality:
--prefs-add --radio-quality="high"

Download program PID (mxxxxxxx) with cuesheet, tracklist. --whitespace replaces "_" with " ". Track times are a bit off on the live programs, better on the regular programs.
--cuesheet --tracklist --whitespace --pid=mxxxxxxx

Get the PID from the Web PVR Manager. You can download using this as well. I find it easier to just F3 and paste PIDs into the command line.

I then convert the m4a AAC to flac, which I think sounds better with my RPi 2B (? due to faster decoding/lower latency).

Thanks for the pointer, Mark. It takes me back to my professional life around Y2K, perl, . . . I'd be interested to learn why there isn't a more modern interactive version. It looks to be very well documented and I'll take advantage.

They are very aggressive with geofence enforcement through browser cookies.

Thanks. I'm curious - why would BBC offer hi res outside the UK, but compressed within the UK?

They don't, it's the other way round. The higher res is only available in the UK (or a VPN that looks like it is in the UK).

Just downloaded the first three Proms this morining. They come in as 24/96 based .mp4(AAC) files of good size suggesting a fairly high, possibly variable bitrate in their compressed state.

I noticed that they were not offered in the "high" quality and what I got was "med". I'll get them over to my main system later. I expect them to sound pretty good.

I'm also going to try to chase down a cuesheet driven splitting method. Suggestions welcome, and I'll report if I find a path myself.

With "high" they are 16/48 and 320k. They have killed many UK VPN IPs by geolocating and recording in cookies.

I got a message saying there was no "high" available, so I switched to "--radio-quality med". The tags resulting suggest that the aac compression was applied to a 96k input, a bit unusual.

If using VPN, try other UK servers. For mine, almost all of the UK IPs have been marked, but not all of them.

What are you using to look at the tags? For "high" Foobar2000 details shows:
Sample rate : 48000 Hz
Channels : 2
Bitrate : 320 kbps
Codec : AAC
Codec profile : AAC LC

I suspected they were using master 24/96 files, because of the 48k sample rate.

I'm not using a VPN so it's just straight in using the get_iplayer invocation from the Win 10 start menu.

I'm looking at the tags in mp3tag. I've used it more and more over the last few years.
