How to create local music source on SDCard File System

I just updated to Moode 8. I previously had a library music source on my local SDCard (don't recall the version I was using) but can't figure out how on version 8. Only options I see are samba/NFS. Does Moode 8 support using a local source ? I suppose I can loopback to an NFS mount but thought it would be simpler to point to a local directory if that was possible.

It surely can. I would recommend using and external USB disc instead; as in case of an update the SD gets formatted, and your music collection will- be deleted if it is there.

On the sdcard you can put your music in /mnt/SDCARD, arranged as you prefer, then from within moOde do "m" => "Update library" and you are ready to go.

As @Nutul mentioned, music files stored on the SD Card will not be preserved when a fresh image is written to the SD Card.

It best to have your music files on a USB drive. High quality huge capacity drives are inexpensive.

Dealing with some issues with my available large external drive , I 'd  love some instructions on how to make use of the SD card as a source . I reinstalled the legacy 32 bit  Moode in my pi zero w using an available 128 Gb kingston SD . On my win11 machine I could only see the boot partition . On my Linux machine  I detected the SDCARD  directory but it says that I don't own it , so I can't  copy anything there . I'm totaly  new to linux , trying to learn step by step . So any suggestion on how I can make the sdcard file accessible would be appreciated . I suppose I must use the terminal and  change permissions allowing everyone while the card is in the raspberry ?  Can I do this in my Linux Mint machine ?

I really can't recommend this because reinstallation of moOde could wipe out your music files.

That said, if you go to m>Config>System in the moOde WebUI and scroll down you'll find the File Sharing section. Enable SMB and the whole mpd music directory will be available to other hosts on the LAN, Windows11 or otherwise.

There is not much upgrading for the pi zero w . Even if I do upgrade to the next 32 version , I can get all the files again on the sd  as I have them elsewhere .

Well,

1. as many of us have already suggested: try not to use the SD card as source to your music, use an external HDD / SSD instead.
(you said this is not a problem, so you may go on using the SD card, nobody will force you to do otherwise)
2. you cannot see the partition in Windows because Windows does not know about Ext3 / Ext4 and the like
3. to solve (2.) enter the settings and enable SMB: this will allow your windows machine to see a shared folder on the LAN and allow you to copy files over (it will be slow(er) of course, but you have no other choice, since you have a Windows host, and it has its limitations.

Now you are ready to go. If there is anything you don't understand, feel free to ask further, but I believe that with what I said above you are indeed ready to copy some music files over to the SD card of your PiZero and populate your library.

The setup guide section titled FILE SHARING. Turn SMB sharing on and then as the section explains several named shares including SDCard will be available on your network.

The shares can typically be accessed by navigating into host "moode" which should be listed in the network neighborhood or whatever it's called these days in Windows file explorer. Keep in mind though that network neighborhood doesn't always automatically discover hosts and so YMMV. In that case you can try to access \\moode\SDCard directly but I'm not sure how thats done in file explorer. The userid for accessing the shares is Guest and password is blank (no password).

If you want to copy files to the SDCard using your Linux box then try preceding the cp command with sudo which elevates to root user.

Copied my media to the SDCard but refresh didn't populate the library. Appears at first due to filenames copied from a Mac that had spaces in the flac filenames. Upon copying the files, the new files have quotes around the entire filename including the flac extension. Wish I remembered what I'd done to address it last time or if I needed to. I might need some messy filename translation from spaces to underscores. I may have searched the wrong terms but if anyone knows a quick fix or thread, let me know.
