Raspberry Pi 5 announced
#1
So, I trust you've all read the RPi 5 announcement!?!

There's several features I particularly like, particularly the inclusion of PCIe 2.0 on-board, but there's one feature I hate: it's not yet released to distributors...October, maybe, they say..

I haven't yet found a US-based approved reseller who's accepting pre-orders but maybe y'all will get lucky.

Happy hunting.

Regards,
Kent

I've pre-ordered in the UK from Pihut. Seems we might get a bookworm based PiOS to go with it.

Several US resellers have gotten to the "notify me" stage. If this is anything like the launch of the Pi4, I won't have a 5 in my hands before Spring.

New OS rev needed to support new features, etc

Wow, a new Pi and RaspiOS Bookworm :-)

"Will older versions of Raspberry Pi OS work with Raspberry Pi 5?
You will need the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS, Bookworm, for your Raspberry Pi 5. Bookworm will launch in mid-October."

Q4 moOde development was looking pretty routine till today :-0

I found the Pi3A+ hit the sweet spot for a stock headless moOde playe, as did the later Zero 2W, but I can't resist shiny new things!

Check Jeff Geerling's blog to see some of the changes that will affect moOde.

Will do this evening.

Pi5/Bookworm should be transparent to moOde software and all the 3rd party packages right ;-)

There's a lovely latin phrase I learned long ago in a course on logic: mutatis mutandis.

Roughly, it means A is the same as B once all the necessary changes have been made!

I don't think many changes will have to be made, but, for example, Bookworm abandons wpa_supplicant in favor of NetworkManager.

Hardware-wise: there's no A/V jack, just a header.

Like I said, check his blog. I've found his work to be very reliable.

Regards,
Kent.

Interesting interview with Eben Upton by Keven McAleer on his YT channel, talking about the new Pi and it's design.
