BBC HLS Feeds have been changed
#1
Hi folks,

The BBC HLS feeds have been changed. The ones in Moode no longer work, alas.

A listing of the new URLs is here:

Cheers,

Phil

I tried to open the first entry of the HLS list with VLC and after a couple of seconds started playing (VLC reports the following in the codec information: ADTS stereo 48000 32bit, AAC extension: SBR).

I am in Bulgaria, so geographically EU. Am I supposed to be able to listen to it, outside the UK, and not being a subscriber of any kind?

I cannot try with moOde ATM.

The working URL (tried one so far) is this one:

http://as-hls-ww-live.akamaized.net/pool...ewind.m3u8

(NOTE: the browser downloads and saves a file, while VLC gets the stream with no complaints)

ETA
I tried another entry, this one:

http://as-hls-ww-live.akamaized.net/pool...ewind.m3u8

despite 96000, VLC reports the very same codec details.

I tried the BB6 Music entry here in the US.

The link is to a .m3u8 file, which is what Al saw being downloaded. Following in Al's footsteps, I dropped the link into VLC on my Linux laptop and it started playing while showing the same codec information as he sees.

However, I then defined a new radio station in moOde with the .m3u8 link as the Playable URL. An MPD plugin happily extracts the first entry in the .m3u8 file, constructs a URL, and MPD tries to play it.

Oops, a popup declares

Code:
MPD Error

Failed to decode http://as-hls-ww-live.akamaized.net/pool_904/live/ww/bbc_6music/bbc_6music.isml/bbc_6music-audio=96000-165380447; CURL failed: The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden
VLC on my laptop can't open this link either.
Since the original .m3u8 file is understood by VLC and the stream is playing on my laptop I assume this 403 error comes from an issue with HLS endpoints and the responsible MPD plugin (possibly with Akamai in the mix?), not with geo-fencing. Dunno where to go from here.

Notes on how to edit the stream to change quality and listening area (UK or worldwide) have now been added at the base of the HLS feeds list.

Cheers, changing my BBC2 URL to use UK and 32K worked a charm

Great. BBC Radio 3 now playing again via Moode. ( After changing and editing the URL using UK and 320000 - not 32K!) Smile

Very confusing.

This Radio One URL from the list plays just fine here from US but I thought the 320K bitrate streams were geo-locked ??

h t t p://as-hls-ww-live.akamaized.net/pool_904/live/ww/bbc_radio_one/bbc_radio_one.isml/bbc_radio_one-audio%3d320000.norewind.m3u8

Currently there are 2 sets of BBC stations in moOde whose URL's stopped working.

- MP3 128K - not geo-locked
- AAC LC 320K - geo-locked to UK broadcast region

Questions:
1. Is geo-locking not being done for the streams in the aforementioned list ?
2. Are the stream links stable?

I am located in the UK, and the 320K streams are stable so far for me.
Currently listening to BBC 5 Live - [url= http://as-hls-uk-live.akamaized.net/pool...ewind.m3u8[/url]
