UI jump to playlist end, jump to album
#1
Hi everyone. I have two proposals for your consideration, which could maybe further improve the UI ergonomy of the already excellent product. They came from my usage pattern which usualy employs an iphone (mobile UI), so I by no means insist that they would be useful for everyone, but nevertheless, here they are:

1. I tend to create long term playlists according to my moode, so I often wish to hear for example the last few tracks I last listened to yesterday. It requires scrolling to the end of the playlist, which can be cumbersome on the mobile device and with long playlists. Proposal: a "jump to playlist end" at the top of the playlist (the red downwards pointing arrow in the attached mockup screenshot).

2. Often I listen to a single track from a particular album, only to wish to listen to some additional tracks from it. Currently this requires browsing from the top of the library down to the album, through the hierarchy, which is a bit cumbersome on a mobile device. It could be useful to add an icon (the red LP icon in the attached mockup screenshot) which would instantly browse the library to the album from which the track currently playing comes from.

Again, these proposals could be too specific, hard to implement, or cause the unnecessary UI clutter, but maybe they could be useful.

1. Theres really nowhere convenient on the UI to add another icon but I could maybe add something to one of the ... context menus. I'll play abound with it.

2. If you click on the Artist name under the main cover art it switches to Tag view for that Artist. I could look at doing something similar when clicking on the Album name i.e., switch to Tag view fr that Album.

What do you think?

1. Yes, that could be the solution. Furthermore, it could be more convenient than I originally thought, because the "Jump to end" would be readily available from anywhere in the potentially long playlist.

2. Ooops, I totally forgot about that feature. Since the switch to Tag view caused by a click on the Artist name causes the positioning to the album from which the track comes from, there's actually nothing more to do, it's kinda already implemented Smile

Generally speaking, it seems that the Moode UI, as a product of long development process, offers a way to achieve anything that the underlying system can provide, so anything that could be added falls into "shortcuts" category.  In that spirit, maybe the only thing that would in long term justify the hard process of changing the top-level architecture of the UI would be the "Quick Actions" or "Shortcuts" framework, with the idea of having "One-Click" shortcuts menu, accessible from anywhere, for any feature (such as these two) that the most users find handy, as random as they could be (even though they might already be accessible in four or five clicks from their respective menus). It could be accessed by another "..." context menu near the album cover, or something similar. It's worth noting that this resebmles the process of establishing new parks in cities, when the authorities wait for a few seasons before establishing pedestrian cobbled pathways, to identify the most logical paths taken by the majority of visitors. In other words it is only now, after a decade of Moode UI refinement that such handy features could be recognized.

I'm not saying that I have the idea how hard it may be to implement, is it implementable at all, or even what the features for such quick access menu would be, or in what process they could be identified (an users' poll?). But maybe it's an idea worth considering, in order to make an already excellent product a tad better.

A configurable Shortcuts feature is a good idea. It's prolly not what I would call hard to implement but there are a lot of moving parts to be coded and this takes time. I'll add to the TODO list.

I've thought for a while that it would be nice if buttons beneath the volume wheel (or at the bottom of the UI/playbar in mobile) could be configurable.  If the user could choose which four or five are on screen while the rest go in the three dots menu.  It's on my list of things to do when I retire...  Tim may get there first (the code that is, not retirement - I wouldn't want to presume).

lol, thats been on the TODO list for like 5 years. I think it was @swizzle that originally had the thought.
