SSH login with default password does not work
#1
Hello everyone,
Perhaps someone can give me a tip. I doubt my sanity....
I have several Moodeaudio systems installed and running without any problems. Now I wanted to set up a new system and can't log in via SSH.  (Install IR receiver)
The SD card was created with the RasperryPI imager. Under the OS customisations I have activated SSH with "Use password for authentication".
I have activated Web SSH in the web interface.
I can neither log in via Putty nor via SSH Terminal with
User: pi
Password: moodeaudio
to log in. Has the default password been changed? Have I become calcified and forgotten something?

Many thanks
Peter

Read the Setup Guide and follow the REQUIRED steps. There's a link to the guide on the Download page at moodeaudio.org

Thanks Tim,
my problem was a translation problem. The page with the instructions is not an HTML page and is therefore not translated with Google Translate. With my poor English I had not understood point 2 correctly ( 2. REQUIRED: Userid, password and SSH are required otherwise moOde will not function correctly. When enabling SSH, select "Use password authentication "which means the password specified for the userid is to be used. )
This was different in previous versions.....
I apologise for this trivial question. Thanks for the hint though.

best regards
Peter

Hi, Peter.

I'm guessing from "lustig" that you would be more comfortable with German. If I'm wrong, then please ignore this.

I'm curious to know what you think of the quality of Google Translate output when it's fed some of our documentation. When I cut and paste the beginning portion of setup.txt into Google Translate I get the following

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I knew enough German to read books with the aid of a dictionary (budding physicists in the 1960s were still required to learn scientific German). To me this translation doesn't look half bad---I love that it knew to translate "Quick help" to "Schnellhilfe" in the text and not to translate the accompanying URL---but I'm not the right person to judge.

I don't think we should try to maintain moOde documentation in multiple languages (it's hard enough to maintain it in English Tongue ). It would reassuring to know Google Translate is "good enough" to recommend to those who need help reading it.

Hello Kent,

the translated text is quite usable.

For normal websites, I always let Google translate automatically because it's so easy. In this case, I was too lazy to copy and paste the text.
I thought my English was sufficient to understand it properly. That was probably a wrong judgement. I'm not particularly good at learning languages.
By the way, I prefer Deepl for manual translations as I think it translates better than Google from English to German.

Best regards,
Peter.

Reviving this thread because I have a problem somewhat related to this.

From what  can understand, the SSH must be enabled via the Rpi flashing tool, using either a password or a generated key (the latter has always been obscure to me).
I have not used the Rpi flashing tool, most of this work I do on the laptop running Linux so I've just used the system etcher, after all I never had problems while flashing cards for OctoPi, PiHole, OMV, etc.

So I've flashed the latest release of Moode, used on one of the Pi3 B+ I've got around, it has a Digi+ DAC and a DSI screen attached.
It all works as far as playing music, using the web UI on any device in my home network, but the attached DSI screen (unbranded 4.3" DSI with touch) keeps showing the terminal as per booting sequence.
If I try "restart local display" I can see the screen goes off and restarts but no UI is displayed. Also I will need this screen to rotate 180º, I did try adding the line "lcd_rotate=2" in boot/config.txt with no results.

I'd like to use SSH for solving this, but I cannot login, whether is via terminal or the Web SSH (the one activated from Configure/System/Security).
Been using "moode:moodeaudio" to no avail, I don't think I should use the password chosen when installing (that is just login?) but it doesn't work either.

What am I doing wrong? Has to be something silly that I'm missing.... thank you in advance

Simple...you are stubbornly not following the explicit instructions for prepping the moOde image. There is no default username; there is no default user password. moOde won't run without them.

Using the Raspberry Pi Imager makes your life easy. Not using it means making your life harder. Still, if you insist, you might check out the guide for contrarians I posted a year ago. Caveat: a lot of water has spilled over the dam since then. This guide should still work but I haven't checked it with the current version of moOde & Raspberry Pi OS.

Kent

Thank you for your reply, although I'm not "stubborn" in this but it was just a matter of convenience and using what has always been working for me, as said I've done dozens of installations on Rpi/Odroid/etc with a generic etching tool so I wasn't aware this was truly a "must-do". Ok then.

Your post as linked above is very helpful, did not came out when searching, hence my post yesterday. What you've said there really makes sense, will try later on today. Cheers.
