I've had radio 1 playing (with the volume down) for a couple of hours and didn't see any dropouts. That xrun condition is exactly the thing that the station monitor is there to catch. I occasionally see it on some stations I listen to regularly, and the monitor was designed to catch the condition and restart the stream. You will get a gap while it restarts, but you don't have to intervene.
Why the xrun happens is a mystery, it happens on different stations to different people, and not at all to most people on most stations it seems. Having said that, I've not noticed one since I changed my router from the VirginMedia hub I was on before, so maybe that is something to do with it.
To enable the monitor go to the Radio Manager (cog on the radio list), Stream Monitor Service set to on and resume play set to yes. Then edit the station you have issues with and set the Monitor to yes.
