Hi,

Currently I have it set to the default Apodising Fast Roll-off filter. After I get used to the overall sound signature of the DAC with my Yammy's i'll switch to one of the slow roll-off filters and see if I can detect a change. It will probably take at least a couple of weeks to condition my brain to the sound :-)

Here's some pics of the rotary encoder mount and of the heart of the Katana, the DAC and OPAMP boards.

View of the encoder mount. The body of the encoder is entirely recessed into the mount because the mount is right against the side of the boards. The encoder is an ALPS EC12 series 24 PPR quadrature encoder. Mouser part# 688-EC12E2430804. The knob is a vintage Fender Telecaster knob :-)
           

These pics show the wire routing and where the 3-pin female crimp connector exits between the boards.

Its purpose is to "clean up" the digital signals sent from the Pi to the DAC.

In general, eliminating noise and other forms of distortion from the signals is important for improving SQ.

Hi Johan,

If you only wanted one output stage board then you can choose either THD or SQ. If you wanted to experiment with both boards then you would select one for Default e.g. SQ and the other for Extra e.g. THD. Which ever one you select for default will be installed by Allo on the stack.

My Katana shipped with the SQ board and so far I'm loving the sound :-)
