Problem: MPD Error starting Moode (ALSA equal)
#11
Very odd since I'm able to reproduce the exact issue and resolve it by setting ALSA auto-format to "Yes" in MPD Config.

It affects Graphic EQ, Parametric EQ and Crossfeed.

Yes, it's very odd, this issue haunting me from previous versions of Moode and i thought i was doing something wrong during format/flashing new images..
The auto-format is YES by default, i tried ti select NO and reboot, then YES and reboot but it's the same..
Apologise me for continuous questions

After re-reading the thread I noticed "Invalid card number" in the log. I'm not sure how this condition can occur since there are only two possible configurations.

- Raspberry Pi on-board audio and i2s audio are assigned card 0 by Linux
- USB audio device is assigned card 1

Code:
20190326 094148 worker: ALSA volume (Invalid card number.)

You can try cmds below.

Code:
cat /proc/asound/card0/id
cat /proc/asound/card1/id

Ok, no such file or directory

Very odd. The symptom suggests either SDCard corruption or a hardware issue.

The best way to troubleshoot is to start with just a Raspberry Pi and a fresh image.

1. Set I2S device to 'None' in Audio config
2. Power off
3. Unplug all boards and any other connected devices from the Raspberry Pi
4. Power on

The moode log should be clean and no "Invalid card" error.
You should be able to play the Stereo Test file

Ok, in this way no errors displayed, they appear just plug the hat devices (DAC or DIGI).
Power off>power on and all works as usual, below the text on file log about sound card, the only that changes:

20190326 124641 worker: ALSA volume (amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Digi                                                                tal',0)

previous text20190326 094148 worker: ALSA volume (Invalid card number.)

Am i so unlucky to have 2 hat damaged at the same time?  Dodgy

Thanks!

Ah... HiFiBerry....my digi-pro had something similar....intermittently being not recognised by MoOde and so no output.

As there are no power leds on these boards it took a while to track down.... the soldering of the header was imperfect and the 5v connection was lost.

I measured with a multi-meter to confirm then re-soldered the 5v pin and all has been well since.

The hat dacs I feel are prone to this as the force required to fit or remove them can exacerbate an already poor connection.

Thanks Drone, good idea.. I'll check voltage and soldering, could be a cause
It's strange that with a simply OFF>ON all works

About 50% of the time that had  mine working as well. The frustration of the other times caused me to investigate further.
I'm suspicious that your getting this on 2 hats though.

I note you've tried 2 hats and other cards/images... were they all on the same Pi ? with the same power supply ?

I ran a quick test with a Pi-2B and HiFiBerry DAC+ board and no issues.

1. Audio Config, set I2S audio device = HiFiBerry DAC+, SET
2. Reboot
3. MPD Config, verify Device type = "I2S audio device",  set to Hardware volume, SAVE
4. Play music
5. Reboot
6. Print updated moode.log (below)
