Moode 5.0
#51
Quote:philrandalA couple of UI issues.

After clicking on the playing radio station logo in the player panel at the bottom of the screen, up pops the familiar playback screen.

At the very top left of the screen, there's a very small very dim grey search button, to all intents invisible, as is the bar (top middle, can't see it to tell what it is).

This needs a fix to make them visible.

Android 9 phone, tested in Chrome and Firefox.

Second one, there's a save playlist option in the menu on that screen. A load playlist option would be extremely useful as well.

I still can't get my head around the new UI. Needs a 'home' button on every screen to take you back to the 'now playing' plus playlist screen.

The search field text color is a bit dimmer compared to regular text (or actual text entered in the field) but that’s intentional as it’s just an indicator the field exists rather than something you really want your eye drawn to, or that needs to be read while looking at the screen. The bar is a button you can press (along with the cover art) to minimize the playback screen. It used to be a chevron but then it wasn’t. Wink

Access to your music happens in the different view tabs, playlists are currently located in the folder view because that’s where they’ve historically been. The reason for save playlist in the context menu was that people with very long playlists had to scroll all the way to the bottom to access the playlist control buttons.

The primary role of moode (or any music software) is to give you easy access to the music you want to hear. We moved to the playbar model which centers the experience around your music collection while putting many functions of the traditional playback screen in a compact form on every screen. You can maximize playback to full screen/window and it will look like moode 4.x (minus the tabs which are no longer relevant) but you no longer need to for simple playback functions.

The disappearing playlist... You access the playlist in mobile portrait mode by scrolling up, tapping any list item will start playing that item and scroll back to the top and “hide” it. There are a few benefits to this: it gives us more room for the buttons so they have bigger hit targets, let’s us position the buttons on the screen so they’re easier to hit while operating the phone with one hand, and helps prevent inadvertently switching tracks to the first few items from stray touches. If you rotate the screen to landscape you’ll get the more traditional moode desktop/tablet landscape view, however most smart phones are tall and skinny and not really suited for that format.

Is there any settings I can change to stop me from being locked out of the interface while I'm playing something via Airplay or Bluetooth?

Bluetooth, Airplay, Spotify and Squeezelite renderers take over playback and so there isn't really anything that I'm aware of that would be of use in the UI while they are active. In fact changing audio settings or volume in the UI would mess up the renderer.

What are you needing to change in UI while a renderer is Active?

Note that for Bluetooth and Analog or S/PDIF Input tapping on the "Active" title in the center of the screen open up BlueZ or Source Select configs. This is described in Quick Help :-)

Hello Tim,
hello Swizzle,
hell all other people who made moode 5 happen.
Thank you very much for a wonderful new version.
It tokk only one hour to install it from scratch, including my radio stations, my custom smb file and a few othe things.
The rebuilding of my (local) database went smooth. So I'm up and runnig a very impressing moode 5.
The response of the UI is very fast and browsing my library is simply fun. Btw I love the small covers in the list!!!  Heart Heart

Thank you all for the contributions and the hard work. It is really a pleasure using the software.

So... I can either manually re-tag 45.000 files or use Moode 4.4 for the rest of my life?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the ArtistSort tag there so you can sort, for example, by last name or without articles and still display the name like a normal person would write it? Who would ever want for that tag to be displayed and why is it set like this by default with no way to change it? Tagging software like Musicbrainz Picard usually populates these tags as lots of players use it to sort, but I don't get why you decided to also display it that way and use it to search. I am sure you have your reasons or a lot of people requested it but it seems very odd to me.

Is there really no way for me to change it back to the way it used to be and still use Moode 5.0? I was so glad to see that it finally includes a real driver for the Audiophonics DAC I use in one of my systems.

I don't want to complain about awesome free software, I'm just really confused.

Thank you Tim,
Martin

I was under the impression that if the sort tags were populated they would simply replace the default tags but if thats not the case then there are a couple of options to revert to default tags b4 an update is made available.

If you know some Linux SSH I can post the procedure.

First of all thank you for this incredible piece of software and all the hard work you put into it!

I have a problem with my library view/search: I have made a point of tagging all of my music with the artist name formatted as "first name last name" so for example "David Bowie" not "Bowie, David". In Moode 5.0 some of the artist's names are now jumbled, not only like "Bowie, David" but also abominations like "Adderley, Cannonball, and his Orchestra", "Budd, Harold/Eno Brian with Lanois, Daniel" or "Tribe Called Quest, A" and the fun part is: if I don't type it into the search window exactly as it's written it finds absolutely nothing. Not all names are jumbled like that so it's a happy guessing game. I never had any problems with previous versions of Moode and it makes no difference if I sort by "artist" or "album artist". It's also the same library with the same tags as before, so I really don't know what happened.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you,
Martin

Hi Martin,

moOde 5 will use the ArtistSort and AlbumSort tags if they are populated. Generally these particular tags are only present and populated if the collection was purposefully tagged in this way.

Use your tagging utility to examine a sample of the tracks where the Artist is displayed in the Library as last_name, first_name and see if the ArtistSort tag is populated.

-Tim

Hi Tim,

Firstly, I love MoodeAudio and would have been pleased to contribute more to the Beta discussion but alas work commitments didn't really give me the time (anything I noticed had already been reported!). To add to the above: I set my player to sort by Album Artist but ArtistSort tags are present in my collection and this seems to override the Album Artist tag. I removed the ArtistSort tag from one album and sure enough, it's now listed correctly. Is it possible to ignore ArtistSort if sort by Album Artist is selected? Alternatively my music is also tagged with AlbumArtistSort...

Incidentally, as far my collection being "purposefully tagged in this way" I believe this is done automatically by MusicBrainz Picard so is not necessarily a conscious decision by the user.

Thanks for all your hard work,

Andrew
