Hi, I'm wondering why my DAC is decoding all my mp3s to 24bit ? flac's are decoding correctly afaik, the dac supports 16bit

IIRC the codec MPD uses to decode mp3 format always outputs 24 bit.

Hi Tim, thanks for your speedy reply. I've been searching the site, other sites and google but could not find that information out. Where would I get such info - is it on the mpd site for example. Cheers and thank you for an excellent product and support.

Try search libmad codec
https://www.underbit.com/products/mad/

You can also examine the sources
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mad/files/

I think it actually outputs 28-bit/44.1 of which 24-bits are used by MPD. Something like that.
