Activating RPi 3B+ wifi for interface access
#1
When i attempt to access my Moode system via wifi, (I usually use wired ethernet), I cannot see an SSID for it via the Android interface. Using ifconfig via ssh I see wlan0, but I haven't found a way to establish the SSID on the 3B+. I'll be taking my system to Burning Amp once again, so all music will be local and the control only will access via wifi. I imagine this is very simple but my searches on the Pi side and the Moode fourum haven't gotten me there.

Thanks,   Skip

Skip,

I have used Fing app to find SSID. May want to give it a try.

I'm assuming you really do mean SSID, i.e., you are trying to run your moOde player in AP mode. So is it configured to start up in AP mode?

In the WiFi (wlan0) section of the Network config panel the SSID entry must be "blank (activates AP mode)". If you have entered any other value, your moOde player will start up in client mode and try to connect to any AP which has that SSID value.

Don't confuse this entry with the Access Point (AP) SSID entry in the next section of the Network config panel. The latter must have a value and "Moode" is the default.

Power down, unplug the wired ethernet cable, and power up again. Once booting is complete, "Moode" or whatever AP SSID you chose should show up in your Android phone's WiFi manager or in a third-party app such as WiFi Analyzer.

I quite like the Android app fing but it solves a different problem. It detects hosts on the LAN to which the Android device is connected and reports their IP addresses and hostnames.

Kent

Thanks Kent, That helped. Following your suggestions, the SSID now shows up on my Android tablet and Android phone. In both cases, the browser will not connect saying that there is no response from the RPi. I reattached the lan cable and got an IP address from ifconfig, but entering that in the browser (as opposed to Moode). After rebooting with the cable disconnedted, both 'URL' bar entries failed the same way. One clue is that the entry for Moode in the list of available SSIDs says 'connected, no internet'. This suggests that the connection has the RPi acting as a client not a server.

Perhaps I haven't describe my goal well enough -- I want the Pi w/dac operating in a two node network where the other node is the tablet, using the Moode web interface. All the files will be on a thumb drive.

1. Open moOde Network Config and set the SSID to "blank (activates AP mode)"
2. Disconnect Ethernet cable or AP mode will not start
3. Reboot
4. In your Tablet's WiFi networks screen, wait for the SSID Moode to show up then connect to it using the password moodeaudio.
5. In your Tablet Browser enter

Code:
http://172.24.1.1

Note on Android, you must use the IP address instead of http://moode.local because Android Browsers cannot resolve the .local domain.

For more info view the moOde Setup Guide.

That worked -- everything was the same as yesterday when the browser wouldn't connect with just the IP address entered. I noticed that you entered the http:// as well, and that Chrome set https as default. Once I entered the full line above, it connected. Thanks for your help. Donation follows.
