Problem: Clearing cache
#1
Hi all
I'd be grateful for info to resolve a tag/cover art issue.
I believe my issue is all related to a cache that needs to be cleared but I cannot recall how I've done this in the past.
I have a raspberry pi as an smb server with my music and another raspberry pi as a player. Everything has been working perfectly for years. I have an album that displays without cover art and I believe that it's looking at a cache of the album. If I re-tag the album differently (same cover art) and rescan the library everything displays fine. I remove the album and rescan and the album is gone (so no issue with hidden files/folders). I then re-tag the album with the correct tags (same cover art), copy it to the smb drive and rescan the library and again there's no cover art. How do I clear the cache so that I can get the album to display correctly with the correct tags?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Use the appropriate setting in your Browser to clear the cache and or history.

Am I Clearing the browser cache on the raspberry pi server, the raspberry pi player or the external device browser accessing the server with Moodeaudio on it. Both raspberry pi's, server and player are headless.

Clear the cache on the client (external) Browser.

@channelhugger

What does "I have an album that displays without cover art" mean?

Your commentary notwithstanding, there could be a problem with the album files.

If you zip up the album (as originally tagged, please), place a copy of the zip file on a file-sharing site of your choice and PM the link to me and Tim. I'd be happy to check it.

Kent

Thank you I really appreciate your help. Doesn't matter what device I use to access the Moode player (even a newly bought laptop) the cover art doesn't show despite clearing the cache (although everything shows correctly in other players such as usb audio player pro). I've spent a week on this and I'm now thinking this is related to the files/tagging. I use dbpoweramp to rip my CD's & never had a problem before except for when I used to delete things leaving hidden files. I now cut and paste files to remove them. I use mp3tag to tag (very recently updated, could this be a reason?). I've retagged a flac file (that I know shows okay) to look like a problem track and when I rescan the library and regenerate the album cover thumbnail cache it shows correctly. This seems to suggest that the ripped files are corrupt in some way (although they play perfectly with cover art in USB audio player pro, Foobar2000 and every other Windows player I have). I've copied a single problem file to a newly formatted drive (connected to the Raspberry pi server as the only drive) and used a backup of Moodeaudio on the Raspberry pi player and rescanned and no cover art is displayed (track plays perfectly). Tried changing the flac to WAV and back to flac and still no joy. Converted flac to MP3 and rescanned library, still no cover art. Even though I know this isn't the issue I've ordered another copy of the album and I'll rerip. I think I've tried everything now so unless anyone has any other ideas of what I could try next I'll repost when the new CD turns up and I've ripped this. I will upload one of the problem flac files if I still haven't got a resolution with the newly purchased album.
Again I'd like to thank you both for your help.

Look in the moOde log for any errors from the thumbnail generator regarding the file.

Code:
moodeutl -l

dBpoweramp and Mp3tag work fine; I've used them both. One does have to make sure various settings are consistent with the desired output file format. A trivial example: FLAC files should not have ID3v2.3 metadata tags bolted on but it's easy to overlook this when using Mp3tag. ((See, for example, this 2018 thread and especially my post #20 and following in that thread).

If you don't want to upload a file then at least try this. From moOde's command line use the file command on the troublesome file.

Take, for example, the "LR Channel and Phase" test file that ships with moOde:

Code:
pi@moode64:/mnt/SDCARD/Stereo Test $ file LRMonoPhase4.flac
LRMonoPhase4.flac: FLAC audio bitstream data, 16 bit, stereo, 48 kHz, 1860560 samples

If this command does not return "FLAC audio bitstream data" but instead ""Audio file with ID3 version 2.3.0, contains: FLAC audio bitstream data..." then you have the mixed metadata problem .

Other problems can arise. That's why I still suggest you make a file available to Tim and me.

Thanks again. Now resolved. Just received another copy of the album & ripped that to flac and updated the library and all looks & plays fine on one of the Raspberry Pi's (actually a USBridge Signature). Rescanned the library on the other Raspberry Pi and the album shows with incorrect cover art & one of the tracks shows as tagged differently than it actually is. I've written a backup copy of Moodeaudio to a micro SD card & rebooted the Raspberry Pi & everything is perfect. I've reripped the original album again and tagged exactly the same and the errors reappear despite no errors and perfect playback. So it looks like a combination of a dodgy disc & a corrupt copy of Moodeaudio.
I appreciate the assistance greatly. Now need to relax and listen to some music.
