Problem: Bluetooth crashes during playback
#1
Hi,

I'm using the latest Moode on RPI 3B+ that also has a small DAC board.

I managed to get Bluetooth paired with my Galaxy S21 Ultra as well as Galaxy S10+.

Playing music from Spotify (I know we have a specific renderer for spotify, but I use spotify as an example here) and after random amount of time - playback stops.
The phone would not pair with Moode any more.

When paired -- the web-ui shows only one message saying it's in bluetooth mode however once playback stops -- it reverts back to the standard library view.

Going to rendereres, bluetooth and restarting the bluetooth agent "fixes" the situation until it crashes again, this can take seconds till a minuet or so.

I've tried disabling and enabling the bluetooth agent - this doesn't have any influence and the problem persists.

will appreciate your feedback.

@menim

I have no access to any Samsung phones. Google develops Android but then Samsung does its own thing with it. Checking the Samsung forum, I found posts in 2021 complaining of Bluetooth connectivity issues with the S21. The following response means nothing to me but maybe it does to you (found in https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/gala...-p/4433732)

Quote:I may have found a fix for the S21 bluetooth issues.  Go into Android Auto settings and turn off wireless sync.  It's been working fine now for over a day.

Good luck.

Regards,
Kent

 Meni,

The symptoms suggest a possible issue with the client bluetooth stack or some sort of signal quality issue. Bluetooth is only good for ~30 feet assuming excellent signal quality.

I have a 3B+ with a Boss and Bluetooth from my iPhone works perfectly.

I'd agree if I had this issue with other bluetooth speakers / headphones, but I don't have such issues.

Also - once the bluetooth disconnects -- Moode will not accept bluetooth connectivity any more until the bluetooth service is restarted at Moode.
It will then accept my connection, play back for some more time and will disconnect again.
Where can I see the bluetooth service log specifically - I'd like to see what it writes in the log when the disconnec thappens.

BTW, same thing happened with Galaxy 10+ so it's not a S21 issue.

BTW2, once moode got disconnected - i connected to my bose revolve speaker and it worked for hours without any disconnect .

Sure, but unless another dev can repro your specific issue there is no way to troubleshoot it. Bluetooth works perfectly with all my devices.

We just use the stock Bluetooth stack that ships with RaspiOS so you may want to post an issue on one of the Raspberry Pi forums. The versions in the current release of moOde are below.

Code:
pi@moode:~ $ bluetoothd --version
5.55
pi@moode:~ $ /usr/bin/bluealsa --version
v3.0.0
pi@moode:~ $

You did not do any upgrade / install any additional drivers, did you?
I am on 3.0.0 as well, being on a 8.2.x

Cheers, Al.

I tried to follow a tutorial for enabling LDAC that didn't work.
Must say on 7.x OOTB config I had the same bluetooth disconnects. Also didn't see any documentation of unstable bluetooth connection on bluealsa.

Is there a way to view bluealsa logs ?
