DSD audio coding is not recognized by my DAC which always processes it as PCM
#1
Hi All,
I'm using an SMSL D300 dac connected to a Raspberry 4 via USB on which the latest version of Moode (8.3.6) is installed.

When I turn on the Dac and the Raspberry, the DAC display shows “DSD” but as soon as I play any song from Moode, the DAC display indicates PCM encoding.

In the MPD configuration the encoding is "DSD Native" and I have not changed any other parameters.
Do you have any advice for configuring Moode so that the DAC recognizes DSD encoding?

Thank you very much

What does Audio info show when playing a file?

You might have to post two screen shots to show all the info.

Since you are playing a PCM 16 bits 44.1 kHz it's expected that your DAC shows what it is receiving.
DSD Native has effect ONLY if you play DSD files on moOde, which otherwise would get converted to PCM.

I'm sorry but I didn't know it depended on the encoding of the file; thanks for the clarification.

Actually, it's not just an encoding scheme, it's a totally different technology; this is why you need a DAC capable of dealing with DSD to play DSD files natively from your player of choice.
Luckily (well, not luck, but tech...) MPD can play DSD streams directly to your DAC, if it supports it.

P.S.
DSD streams are characterized by either .dsf or .dff file extensions, and are generally very big (1 GB per track or more, depending on the sample frequency)
