8.3.7 - only AirPlay 2 supported
#1
Not a helpful change for me. I use Windows Itunes (only compatible with Airplay 1) extensively to beam my music to Moode, and this update looks like it will break this feature.
Huh
Can you suggest any workarounds?

Paul.

Maybe try TuneBlade or AirParrot. I think they support Airplay 2

I feel your pain...but I can't help commenting that this is really on Apple, who, for whatever reason, have not implemented their proprietary AirPlay 2 protocol in their proprietary iTunes for Windows product (at least for Win10; I have no knowledge of Win11 or associated products)

The open-source shairport sync devs have managed (mostly) to reverse engineer the proprietary AirPlay and AirPlay 2 protocols and state explicitly in their docs that

Quote:Shairport Sync can be built as an AirPlay 2 player (with some limitations) or as "classic" Shairport Sync – a player for the older, but still supported, AirPlay (aka "AirPlay 1") protocol.

Note the "or".

Sadly, trying to support both AirPlay and AirPlay 2 in moOde using shairport sync (e.g., turning that "or" into "and/or") has gotten to be too fiddly.

Maybe Apple's iTunes app for Windows 11 will support AirPlay 2. I'm unlikely to get Windows 11  any time soon so someone else will have to chime in.

Regards,
Kent

I forgot to ask. Are you looking to just run Airplay 1 and not switch between 1 and 2?

Hello, as @Tim Curtis suggested, I've just tested TuneBlade on Windows, it works great and is free to use without any limitation with moode audio/shairport-sync devices

I also have the problem, with my old (and only) macOs, which is only compatible with airplay 1.

And in this latest version of moOde, Airplay 1 or 2 is not selectable, it's quite annoying for me, I use Airplay quite regularly

I see you also are interested, eventually, in AirPlay (1) only...

@Tim Curtis
Do you think that installing AirPlay, or AirPlay 2, manually may be a more reliable procedure, compared to the broken automatic switching moOde has been doing until previous version?

There are already two users for whom the change resulted in a not so pleasant experience.

Maybe a tutorial can be made to remove version 2 and install version 1... keeping in mind also what is moOde expecting from a command / UI perspective, of course...

@yannig how old is your Mac and what OS?

I have a 10 year old Air running Mojave (10.14.6) and no probs playing to moOde Airplay 2 from iTunes.

@Tim

Hello

I have a MBP late 2013, with the same OS than your (Mojave 10.14.6).

I can't select Airplay 1/Airplay 2 since mode 8.3.7 (I could before)

And I had to select Airplay 1 for it to work. (I don't remember from which version, ).

My use is more for videos, like Youtube, or even some replays & radio podcasts... (And I just tried a few: Airplay doesn't work there either)
musical regards

Are using OS-wide Airplay via the volume icon on the MacOS menu bar or in-app airplay?
