I would like to use moode + RPI4 in a car.
My iphone will be used to monitor moode and also as an internet gateway in order to get acces to internet radio and spotify as well
I also plan to play DAB+ radio on the RPI4 but its a second step

IIRC when the Hotspot is activated on your phone it will provide a WiFi SSID so clients can connect. Just define that SSID and password in moOde Network Config.

You recall correctly and this lashup works. I've done it at home.

I'd be concerned about three things:

1) I don't know how reliable a connection the phone can maintain with the mobile data network as the car moves from one cell to another.

2) probably have to keep the phone plugged into the car's charger port to avoid rapid depletion of the phone's battery with the hotspot enabled.

3) but most importantly, I fear the distraction to a driver this could create.

But that's just me.

Kent

I did, but without success.
I don't know what's going on because no information message is available

I can only connect on moode Hotspot, but that is not what i need because there is no internet access that way.

When moOde starts-up searches for a wireless lan (if any configured), and if thereis/it finds none, it starts its own AP. So to make things work, I think you should:
1. connect to moode on its AP
2. configure in it the LAN your phone will be providing
3. shutdown moode
4. setup and activate the AP on your phone
5. boot moode

it should connect.
If not, I suggest you set it up at home, with your phone tethered connection set up and active; while you connect to the moode AP with your computer, and change/configure moode to use your phone AP; and reboot it.

Look in the Network section of the startup log. The log can be viewed via the command moodeutl -l or downloaded via the Logs section in System Config, or via Menu, System info from the any of the Config screens. The startup log will be at the end of System info output.

You phone Hotspot has to be active first before booting moOde otherwise it won't be able to connect to the Hotspot SSID and will instead failover to Access Point (AP) mode.

This may be your problem.

I've successfully used both Google Android phones and Apple iPhones as my mobile access point for moOde. The phone has to have decent access to a cellular data network for this method to be useful, of course.
