Problem: Odd update behaviour....then horrendous audio probs!!
#1
Using 9.3.2....into Topping E30.

Noticed that progress spinner doesn't show when updating.....but updating seems to have occurred.
Audio plays....but with large amount of stuttering/distortion.
I've attached current startup log, and hoping for comment please?

Am I reading that right, you have four USB drives and a USB DAC? If so, I assume a USB hub is involved. If so, have you tried without it?

Also... is the USB hub a powered one...?

The first step in troubleshooting is to power down, remove all external devices except the Topping E30 DAC, and power up again. Now see if your problem still occurs with the Stereo Test file included in moOde.

It if does, then you may have to do some hunting for clues from the command line.

Example, running the following command while playing the track may turn up some useful error messages

Code:
journalctl -f

This command will run until you hit the control-C key.

Turning on verbose logging in the moOde System config settings may help as well. If it's on, you can watch the moOde log while you play an offending track. Again, entering control-C will kill the command.

Code:
tail -f /var/log/moode.log

Don't forget to turn off verbose logging once you're done with it.

At this point, we don't know enough to say what might turn up in these checks, if anything.

Kent

Great....a few things to try here...thanks!
Yes....it's a powered hub....supposedly suited to the RPi4.
Will get back on this.

I have the E30 II, but I have 2 usb cables connected. One to the RPI and one connected to an old usb charger to power the E30 II.

Therefore, not sure if just the usb cable from the RPI to the E30 would be sufficient for audio and power.

Using a separate Allo Shanti PS for the Rpi/DAC.
Sabrent powered hub for the USB drives.

Ah, that should be quite sufficient... Big Grin

I have my RPI4 powered with the standard RPI PS, the E30 II with the supplied cable and an old Chromecast wall charger. No issues whatsoever.

I have used an Allo Nirvana and odly that was less good compared to the standard PS. Especially as the Nirvana has a ground switch which caused hissing etc when activated. The Shanti does not have such a switch, but do make sure nothing is touching the ground plug.

A few things to report!!

Removing all drives....and playing Stereo teast file....no problems.

journalctl -f ....returned no errors.

tail -f /var/log/moode.log ....lots of errors listed....mainly relating to .tif files/problem .flac files.
There were 20 or so of these.....now removed from my source files

With 4 drives connected.....now errors have gone....and get:

You need to eliminate the USB hub, try just the DAC and one drive connected directly to USB ports on the Pi.
