@ DRONE7,
Mixer name = "Master" is correct for the Piano 2.1. and IIRC it should support Hardware volume.
Try looking at alsamixer (or amixer) to see what is recognized by Linux/ALSA.

This has been true for a long time with respect to Fritz!Box routers and now we see the GL-MT300N-V2 as well. As my grandmother used to say, "there's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip."
@jonners
To rule out any dns vs mdns silliness, what happens when you try manually entering host/share either as GL-MT300N-V2.local/sda1 or as <router IP address>/sda1?
Were the router on my network, for example, the latter would be 10.0.0.1/sda1
I looked at https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/tutorials/file_sharing/ and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The router seems to be based on OpenWRT which is a venerable piece of kit. The documentation is heavily skewed toward MS-Windows users, though, which can be annoying.
Regards,
Kent
Thanks for the help Kent, but no luck with either of those entries. For the time being I'm reverting to 7.6.1, which mounts my NAS disc with the SCAN showing the path as GL-MT300N-V2/sda1

Yes, correct, alsamixer reports it as Master and it can be adjusted. MoOde reports it as Master but MoOde volume control does not adjust it in Hardware setting.
However the O/P's mixer is listed as HDMI for the Piano which is wrong and I can't repro.

ntlm is not even recognized anymore
I used vers=1.0, that worked in moode 7.0
but in moode 8 dont work.

A log message like
Code: CIFS: VFS: Use of the less secure dialect vers=1.0 is not recommended unless required for access to very old servers
is informational and not a statment of error.
From the IP address it appears you are using a file-sharing function on your router as your NAS. What is the router? How have you made sure the share name is "CD"? How have you inferred that "ntlm" is in play and the protocol level version is "1.0"?
As Phil has said, you can force these parameters in the Advanced flags settings in the Music Source screen but they have to be correct for the source.
ETA - and as Tim has said, the SCAN function does a good job of figuring out the protocol level version in play.
Regards,
Kent
router is Zyxel 8825
share name is correct,
the same configuration worked flawlessy in moode 7;
no luck with the scan function.
It seems that ntlm is not supported anymore

My workaround would be to use a Raspberry Pi running OpenMediaVault instead of the router as your NAS. Really easy to set up.

When the sound stops, does the UI still show that the track is playing? Are there changes of bit depth/sample rate between songs when it stops? If you post one of your config files here I'll gladly try it on my system to see if there is an issue with the config itself.

Would that entail running a separate RPi with a screen?

After reboot no more sound. Reverting to Disabled did not solve the problem. Several restarts of my Raspberry Pi 3B+ still no sound to be heard.
Apparently it should work as the timer on the mainscreen progresses. I've tried all kind of settings, including volume settings (software, hardware etc), but no sound to be heared. Also reburning the image on the same SD did not work. Using a new SD did resolve the problem shortly, but altering the setting under driver options seems to destroy something.

I don't have a Piano or Kali anymore and so will not be able to try and debug but in the log the record below is suspicious since IIRC the Piano 2.1 does support hardware volume.
Code: 20220314 081321 worker: Hdwr volume controller not detected
To troubleshoot try the following:
1. Fresh image
2. No Kali, just the Piano
3. Verify that moOde log shows "Hardware volume controller detected"
4. Repeat 2 and 3 but with the Kali
5. In Audio Config set "glb-mclk Enabled"
6. Verify /boot/config.txt has the line below
Code: dtoverlay=allo-piano-dac-plus-pcm512x-audio,glb_mclk
7. Reboot
8. Examine moOde log for "Hardware volume controller not detected" and if present then it would suggest some sort of issue with the Piano plus driver in kernel 5.15.y.
9. To revert set Named I2S device to "None" in Audio Config.
I can confirm some oddity with setting the volume control preference. I can set Fixed/Hardware/Software.
Fixed and Software behave as expected but Hardware has no control and outputs as Fixed (0dB output)
Is the Piano Hardware controller exposed when used with Kali ??
Other settings to note... the Kali 24 bit bug remains so O/P has to set Sox resampling to 32 bit.
I changed the output mode from plug:hw to Direct (hw)

From the O/P logs
Code: 20220314 081318 worker: MPD config: (0:Allo Piano 2.1 Hi-Fi DAC | mixer:(HDMI) | card:0)
mixer is HDMI...odd if the Pi restarted after the Piano was selected in hardware.
Just checked the dip-switches on the piano 2.1 and I have both set to OFF. @ Tim Curtis
Thanks for the suggestions. Without Kali there is an hardware volume control, but as soon as Kali is introduced and the proper drivers selected sound disappears.
Re-checked all settings as per @ DRONE7 and changed plug:hw to Direct (hw) which resulted in sound only on the right channel.
For now I will stick to version 7.6.1. Which also gives no hardware volume control, but is working flawless.
