DIY Streamer build with screen
#1
I'd like to build a streamer with a screen in a nice aluminium case.
I'm quite capable of following instructions but would have no hope of fashioning one myself without them.
I've done a fair bit of searching and have only managed to find things that aren't available anymore or don't have a list of components and/or build instructions.
Something like the attached pic would be perfect.

One that I have seen here with more info at diyAudio is the Stealth V3. It looks very nice. No experience with it.
Hardware: RPi Zero W | Allo Kali | ProtoDAC TDA1387 X8 | PGA2311 | Icepower 500ASP | Harbeth SHL5
Software: Moode 8.3.3

Yeah that looks nice. Pricey though, I could buy a Wiim ultra for less.

Why a fixed touch display, when an Android tablet such as a Fire is less expensive than the touch display and can be used remotely to control the steamer?

I just like the look. I'm unlikely to actually use the touch screen to control it 99% of the time.

I don't know where you're based (and therefore what shipping options are/are not available), but how about this?

Alternatively, they have lots of diy chassis that you could use and get a custom front panel made up for your screen of choice.

If you want the clean look of a super nice screen and are willing to thrift the enclosure then consider the following config. All components are mounted behind the screen, no wires showing.

10" WIMAXIT IPS display $77

Pi-5 $69

Active cooler $8

Power supply $20

A high quality stereo DAC (IQaudIO DAC Pro) $25

Good BoM that would result in a decent, affordable system.

That's a nice display --- wish it had been available when I was first fooling around with local display but I went with the comparably priced official 7-in touch display.

Reading the Amazon page for the WIMAXIT almost made coffee come out my nose: "This raspberry pi screen with a 3.5mm headphone jack and dual DIY speakers on the back brings you an excellent audio experience ..." Talk about marketing hype.

Kent

My last audio streamer was an Insignia Infocast 8" that I flashed with Chumby software. That was seventeen years ago, now it is just a fancy alarm clock. I came across this site recently and found this thread; it is time to give this software a try using Tim's ingredients, will see how it goes. Thanks Tim!
