So I re-installed everything, also updated the Pi firmware, which has meant I now have a silent setup again.
I haven't tried this yet:
I'm a bit reluctant to apply parametric EQ.
This is my setup (minus fan now, but with bigger heat sink)
1. Separate power supplies for Dac, ArdamLite, Pi, and Hard Drive
2. Black box next to the Soekris is the Ardam Lite, which controls Soekris filters and volume.
If I drop a pot in to control the ALSA volume, I could just keep it inside the box and set it to 90% in the ALSA settings. Lowering the volume on the Ardam Lite control does not reduce the distortion.
