By failing, it means that there is no sound produced on Airplay. No problem on UPNP.
I did the exact same configuration on version 5.3 and I'm not getting any problem. It works like a charm on this version 5.3 with all protocols (Airplay, UPNP).
There is no visible failure on the screen... just no sound. I did it twice (Flash SD card from a fresh downloaded version 6.4.2) just to confirm I'm getting the same issue.
I will try to get the logs you've mentioned....
