Very odd. These screen shots suggest some sort of weird breakage because although the Output device is set to your USB attached device the ALSA options are deal and the startup log still shows the Output device is Pi HDMI 1.
Your best hope is that someone else with a MOTU M4 can either post a success case or reproduce your issue and provide some insight into what might be happening.
