In-place update from older versions

The in place updates tend not to cross major numbers (e.g. series 6 to series 7). There are kernel updates and such that the in place update cannot process. Maybe wait for the series 8 that is on it's way and start afresh then?

There is a change in the kernel version, but didn't look major to me?
