best way to upgrade from 8.x to 9.x?

Hi all

With moOde 9.0.0 out, what is the best way to upgrade and to keep/transfer the settings?

Can i just make a backup, install moOde 9.x on a fresh sd with Pi imager and then restore the backup?

Main things I would like to keep are some audio settings, network shares and radio stations.

Hi @Falco,

For some unknown reason moode 9 (unknown to me) blocks the backup restore on name basis and only allow moode 9 backups to be restored.

When I designed the moode auto config system and backup_manager to be able to restore backup across multiple major versions of moode(along as you take care to create the back items correctly). Just like restoring from 7 to 8.

The backup no only contains the system configuration, but also :

• the playlists, 
  
• custom radio stations 
  
• camilladsp configs 
  

You also can't restore those items with 9.

If you are lucky you can still can the commandline version (backup_manager) to restore the playlist, camilladsp and radiostations. If everything of the config is still working correctly after a restore I don't know.

@Tim Curtis can we have the restore from 8 working with the first upcoming bug fix?
Btw the backup contains the version used of moode to make the config, no need to enforce checks it on name basis.

I'm guilty as charged, lol.

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought restoring the config (moodecfg.ini) settings would not work if the settings were changed in certain ways. In moode 9 a lot of settings changed their meaning or function, particularly for audio and some were deleted.

Maybe just block restore of moode 8 configs/prefs but allow the others.
I forgot about the version being stored in the backup itself. 

I'll add to the TODO list.
