Solved: Library DB Space to small
#1
Hi all,

I starting to use Moode, after being a Volumio user for sometime and needed a change from the bloat that Volumio had become, to much for my older Magna Mano H/W, I needed access to the forum, as I need advice on my moode installation, I think it’s run out of space for the MPD audio database, I've managed to access ssh, with the detault pi/moodeaudio as I'm using the distro Magna - Moode-r701_MH.img, but I need to find the location of the file to increase the DB size.

Many thanks.

Moved to support sub-forum.

Our project does not support any OEM or 3rd party images. Thats the responsibility of the company or person that made the image.

In any case, you might some help from a Forum user for your particular issue. Try posting the startup log using one of the commands below.

Code:
moodeutl -l

cat /var/log/moode.log

Thx Tim,

I've reinstalled, with the 3rd party, as originally I used the r915-arm64-lite, but I couldn't get it to work for me, I'll try again once I've got the 3rd party one working (hopefully), as it's so annoying not having access to my Mano when I want it.

Do you have a suggestion for an older official moode distro, that's lighter on resources for a large library collection, hosted on a local NAS.

Give us some numbers, and the startup log, and then we'll eventually see where the issue might be.

BUT. I srtongly recommend you install the newest version. And that you DO READ the installation guide (not just say "uh, it's saying to flash the uSD... let's just do it", but read it)

Moode has always been super lite as far as memory and cpu utilization goes.

When performance issues occur the usual suspects are: older/slower Pi's, slow boot media, slow network, slow NAS throughput, etc. Some other things that can affect performance are 1. Locally attached display (requires chromium to be running which can be a hog) and 2. ginormous sized collections (huge numbers of cover images and super long lists to load into the Browser).

What model Pi is in the box?
Whats the boot media?
How many tracks in the collection?

You can find older images in the releases section of the repo but only as far back as release 8.3.7, 2023-12-07. Earlier release images had serious security vulnerabilities and were removed. Just remember that our project only has bandwidth to officially support the current release.

Hi Tim,

I'm going to install the r839 I think based on my H/W that's the right level, which will hopefully get me support via your channel. It would be really appreciated.

What model Pi is in the box? I'll get this for you when I've installed the r915, it's the original Magna Mano H/W, it's based on Raspberry Pi2
Whats the boot media? - It's a micro SD card, 32Gig by Transcend. Read up to 100 MB/s, I don't know the write speed at this time.
How many tracks in the collection? - I've a 100K collection, all with metadata and embedded cover art 800x pixels.

Thanks for your input thus far, it's appreciated.

Hi Tim,

Installed r839, GUI quick, no library yet.  I've changed IP address (Static), enabled webssh and audio device.  Are there config settings that I can input for a large collection?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

You can try turning off Preferences > Tag view thumbs to prevent loading the small thumbnail images in the Albums column. That can speed up loading the list when there are a huge number of Albums in the collection.

ETA: The 9 series is for Pi models 3/4/5, 400, CM3/4 and Zero 2 W. It won't run on a Pi-2.

Hi Tim,

Thx for the tip, see attached, I've edited the Preferences ->  Queue Thumbs NO & Tag View Thumbs NO, I've also turned on uPnp Client for MPD, so I can get some tunes out of it from my Emby server, I'm running a scan now on the library, fingers crossed.  See attached System Information, prior to running a scan, if and when the scan finishes, is there any log output I can produce and send to help you see where the issue lies?

When I installed the 3rd party moode, everything was Ok, until I imported my library and then I got alot of "oops, out of memory displays".

Regards

Steve

When a library update is running you can watch the progress using the commands below

Code:
# Shows MPD database update progress
tail -f /var/log/mpd/log

# Shows stats from thumbnail gen and library update
moodeutl -l

# Shows thumbnail generation progress
Library Config > Thumbnail generator > VIEW STATUS
